Despite the closure of the Schilthorn summit until mid-March 2025 due to construction work, Schilthorn Cableway can look back on a record year. The gradual commissioning of the new cable car facilities led to a increase in transport capacity and a marked rise in passenger numbers. All business areas benefited from the growth. 2026 will now be dominated by the completion of the project.
At the beginning of December, employees of the Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. moved into 13 studios in the new team house in Mürren. The building was constructed in response to the lack of affordable housing for staff. Great importance was attached to sustainable construction methods right from the planning stage.
Just in time for the start of the busy winter season, the second Funifor cableway between Mürren and Birg will go into operation on Friday, 28th November 2025. This brings the line’s full capacity to 800 passengers per hour. The construction phase – from cable pulling to commissioning – took six months.
The Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. can look back on an excellent summer season 2025. Demand has risen sharply since the reopening of the Schilthorn summit with the new Funifor cable car in mid-March. However, the ongoing construction work for the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project has once again placed heavy demands on the company.
On Saturday, 1st November 2025, the official 2025/2026 winter season starts at the Riggli chairlift. Thanks to snow farming, a complete ski slope and a snow park has been created for the third time in a row. With the opening of the second Funifor track between Mürren and Birg at the end of November, this route will reach full capacity just in time for the peak season.
The 82nd International Inferno Races will take place in Mürren from 21st to 24th of January 2026. In this edition, the start of the legendary Inferno downhill race will once again be at Kleines Schilthorn. Online registration is open until 15th September 2025.
On Friday, 20th June 2025, the 63rd Annual General Meeting of Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. took place in Mürren. 266 shareholders attended the meeting. The company looks back on a challenging year in 2024. In particular, the closure of the Schilthorn summit from October due to construction work had a significant impact on the figures.
