Outlook on the 81st International Inferno Races 2025

The 81st International Inferno Races will take place in Mürren from 22nd to 25th of January 2025. In this edition, the start will exceptionally not be on the Kleine Schilthorn. Online registration is still open until 15th September 2024.

For the first time in the history of the International Inferno Races, it is already clear well in advance that the race will not take place on the original route: Due to construction work as part of the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project, the Birg-Schilthorn cableway route will be closed from mid-October 2024 to mid-March 2025. As a result, the start on the Kleine Schilthorn will not be possible and also the legendary highway-to-hill ride on the top cableway section will not take place next year. Nevertheless, the 81stInternational Inferno Races will take place from 22nd to 25thof January 2025. The start will be located directly after the Schilthorn traverse at the top of the Engetal. After the start the downhill race will follow the usual route. This means that the expected 1850 starters will also face the infernal key sections of the Kanonenrohr, Höhenlücke and Würzelwald in this edition.

Inferno descent or even super combination?

The Inferno super combination, which has complemented the downhill race since 1985, is also not to be underestimated. The about 400 ambitious skiers who register for the event will start with the night cross-country race on Wednesday, 22nd January 2025. After being postponed twice to the Allmendhubel due to the weather, the cross-country skiing competition is once again planned on the original course in the village of Mürren. The giant slalom follows on Thursday and the legendary Inferno downhill on Saturday. The sporting activities over the four days will be framed by an entertaining supporting programme.

Registration deadline mid-September

Interested participants can still register at www.inferno-muerren.ch until 15thof September 2024. The number of participants is limited. Men and women born in 2007 or before can register.
