Financial year 2025: A record year despite the Schilthorn summit being closed

The 2025 financial year for Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. was marked by a strong recovery. Despite the closure of the Schilthorn summit until mid-March 2025, all business divisions benefited from a significant increase in visitor numbers and ended the year with a profit.

The annual report recently published by Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. paints a positive picture: as noted in an initial review at the start of the year, the 2025 financial year was successfully concluded. By mid-March 2025, visitor numbers had fallen by 22 per cent, in line with expectations, due to the closure of the Schilthorn summit for construction work. However, with the reopening of the cable car service between Birg and Schilthorn, as well as the businesses on the Schilthorn, the expected turnaround begann.

“Visitors flocked to our ski and day-trip mountain,” recalls Christoph Egger, director of the Schilthorn Cableway. “On the one hand, they wanted to see how the new buildings were coming along; on the other, they also wanted to enjoy the unique panoramic views.”

The intensive focus on international travel markets, the increase in capacity thanks to the new cable cars, and continuous operations throughout the autumn months also contributed to the positive result. The upturn continued throughout the rest of the year: overall, visitor numbers on the Schilthorn rose by 21.9 per cent compared with the previous year. This also exceeded the record figures from 2018 and 2019. Revenue from the cable cars rose by as much as 28.6 per cent.

Success across all business areas

The upturn was evident across all areas. All business divisions posted very positive results in 2025. Despite the closure of the summit building – and with it the flagship Piz Gloria revolving restaurant – the catering division managed to increase its total revenue by 6.8 per cent. The hotel sector recorded a 1.4 per cent increase in revenue compared with the previous year. The Shops & Merchandising division also grew by just under 22 per cent, partly thanks to the larger sales area on the Schilthorn.

Prudent liquidity planning – Withdrawal of the dividend proposal

The long-term SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project is set to be finally completed in the coming weeks. The Board of Directors intends to continue its prudent liquidity planning and has therefore decided not to propose a dividend payment to the Annual General Meeting in 2026 either. This decision is underpinned by the ongoing uncertainties in global tourism caused by the conflicts in the Middle East. Strong performance across all business divisions remains a priority, and this trend is also evident so far in the 2026 financial year.

The Annual General Meeting of Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. will take place on Friday, 19th June 2026, at the Alpine Sports Centre in Mürren.
