The lovely, hot weather attracted many visitors to the Schilthorn – Piz Gloria over the summer

Press release —

A strong summer thanks to stable weather and full capacity

Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. can look back on a successful summer season. During the summer months, passenger numbers on the cable car rose by a third compared with the same period last year. This positive trend is also evident in the company’s other business areas. However, the company’s liquidity remains constrained following the completion of the cable car project. The Board of Directors has therefore begun preparations for an optional increase in share capital.

Looking back at the summer presents a positive picture: between 1 May and 30 September 2026, passenger numbers on the cable car rose by a third compared with the same period last year. Total revenue increased by 17.8 per cent compared with the 2025 financial year. This positive trend was reflected in all business areas: the hospitality operations at the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant recorded a similar increase, the hotels saw growth of around 8 to 10 per cent, and the retail outlets also increased their turnover by 10 per cent. Only at the Bistro Birg did performance fall short of the previous year by around 6 per cent. At the Allmendhubel, passenger numbers on the funicular remained on a par with the previous year. Revenue at the Panorama Restaurant Allmendhubel rose once again by almost 7 per cent.

High temperatures and increased capacity

This positive trend, particularly in the cable car sector, is primarily attributable to the phased openings of the new cable car lines in November 2025 and April 2026: since 2 April 2026, full capacity has been utilised for the first time over an entire summer season. The exceptional heat in the lowlands, as well as the stable, dry weather, are also likely to have contributed to many visitors choosing the mountains as their destination. This is also reflected in the high level of interest in the Pända Snowpark Sessions, which have been taking place in the Engetal since 26 September. The snowpark, built using snow from the previous winter thanks to snow farming, has been very popular ever since.

Share capital increase in the pipeline

Despite the positive business performance, Schilthorn Cableway Ltd.’s liquidity remains challenging following the completion of the cableway project. At the Annual General Meeting on 19 June 2026, the shareholders of Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. approved the creation of a capital band with over 97 per cent of the vote in favour. This authorised the Board of Directors to increase the share capital within the specified limits. Preparations for a share capital increase to strengthen liquidity have now been initiated. Subject to the Board of Directors’ approval, the increase is expected to be implemented before the end of 2026. Shareholders will be informed in due course of the terms and conditions of the capital increase.
