Press release —

Official Start of the Winter Season at the Schilthorn

On Saturday 31 October 2026, the winter season will kick off at the Riggli chairlift in the Mürren-Schilthorn ski resort. At the same time, Samuel von Allmen will take over as Head of Winter Sports, succeeding Peter Bühler, who retired at the end of September after 25 years in the role. A sports shop with an integrated bar is set to open in the new Mürren station before the festive season. And in April 2027, the Swatch Nines will return to the Schilthorn.

The time has come – the winter season can begin. On Saturday 31 October 2026, the Riggli chairlift and the associated slope in the Engetal will open. For the first three weekends, the resort will be open for alpine skiing on Saturdays and Sundays, before continuous winter operations commence on 21 November. The Pända Snowpark will also be open to everyone on weekdays during this period. Since the end of September, freestyle skiers and snowboarders have been training in the park – created using snowfarming techniques – which will be complemented by a ski run from Saturday onwards. Day passes are available at a reduced price during the pre-season. The AlpsPass and the Jungfrau Ski Region season pass are valid.

Change in personnel in the Winter Sports management team

On 30 September 2026, Peter ‘Petsch’ Bühler, the long-serving Head of Winter Sports, Slope Operations and Rescue Services, took his well-deserved retirement after 25 years of service. Hired in November 2001 as Head of Winter Sports, he took on additional responsibility for the slope and rescue services ten years later. During his long career, Bühler put his heart and soul into driving forward numerous innovations and developments – always with the aim of offering guests the best possible experience on the mountain. The Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. would like to thank Petsch for his outstanding commitment!

Samuel von Allmen is to take over from him. The 37-year-old, who was born in Gimmelwald, had already taken over as Bühler’s deputy three years ago and, during that time, gained the necessary training and experience for a management role in winter sports. Von Allmen was previously a self-employed plumbing contractor in Mürren and worked for the Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. from 2007 to 2017, first as a snowmaker for several winters and later as a snowcat driver.

Changes and new offers in Mürren

At the Hotel Blumental in Mürren, the ‘Blüemlichäller’ – the mountain village’s only nightclub – will be run by Joost Friedel as the new tenant from December. A native of the Netherlands, he has been living and working in Mürren for several years and most recently worked, amongst other things, as a shaper at the Pända Snowpark. The new Mürren station will also offer something extra for winter sports enthusiasts: A new sports shop with an integrated bar is set to open there before the festive season. Run by Werner Zimmerli, the shop replaces the former Salomon station and features a spacious ski hire area. Thanks to large windows and a spacious terrace with views to the south and towards the Breithorn, the integrated bar is the perfect place to relax.

Swatch Nines are back

Alongside established events such as the Inferno Races in January, the Swatch Nines freestyle event will also return to the Schilthorn in April 2027. A spectacular, specially designed snow park is being created for the occasion, where the international freestyle scene will gather to mark the end of the season together.
